Emergency Kits for Seniors

In an effort to prepare homebound seniors for emergencies like earthquakes, heat waves, and other natural disasters, Alameda County Meals on Wheels is partnering with local businesses, organizations, and volunteers to ensure every homebound senior we serve has emergency supplies on hand. While government organizations recommend obtaining emergency supplies to help prepare for a disaster, most homebound seniors have no means to do so.

In 2006, Alameda County Meals on Wheels with the help of volunteers made and distributed over 2,000 emergency kits tailored for homebound seniors.

Safeway, Inc. donated over 17,000 bottles of water towards emergency kits for homebound seniors.

There was a great turn out of volunteers as well to help produce the emergency kits in 2006. Volunteers included but was not limited to:
